Get the Bug for Coding with CodeBug! (International Women’s Day 2016)

MadLab is celebrating International Women’s Day 2016 with a day of FREE bite-sized training sessions. Come along and learn a new skill, find out about further training and get advice from MadLab staff and industry professionals on getting a career in the technology sector.

The training is open to women of all levels and abilities, but is specifically aimed at women who are unemployed or under-employed (employed or self employed but earning a low wage).

Get the Bug for Coding with CodeBug!

10am – 12pm

Get the Bug for Coding with CodeBug will provide an introduction to easy drag-and-drop programming and electronics with CodeBug. You will learn how to create scrolling name badges, animated graphics and touch-responsive Apps.

CodeBug is a fun and engaging entry-level introduction to coding and physical electronics. In just a few clicks you’ll program the versatile little CodeBug computer to display your own message.

This workshop will require a laptop, so please bring one that you are comfortable using. We also recommend you download and install the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox.

Your tutor, Claire Dodd

MadLab’s Claire Dodd has been interested in helping people learn to develop their digital skills since her move to Manchester in 2013. Organising Community events such as BarCamp Manchester, an annual unconference for over 200 people to share ideas, and CodeUp Manchester, a monthly mentoring program for adults who would like to learn how to code for free. More recently, since joining MadLab in Summer 2015, Claire has helped develop a number of workshops designed to help people improve their digital skills, including Scratch workshops for children, and also a day of workshops to celebrate National Coding Week.
