Description –
The talk by Mary Thornton is looking at eXXpedition, see https://exxpedition.com/about/core-team/ , a group of about 300 women, who are sailing around the world, in team over 3 years, until suspended this April due to the virus, when they were trawling for micro plastics in open waters, at 3 depths. Led by Emily Penn, they are researching what happens to plastic as it disintegrates into hydrocarbons.

Bio
Dr Mary Thornton was originally a freshwater limnologist looking at phytoplankton in Snowdonia, a long time ago. This talk is an amateur interest in Women in Science and the topical problem of micro plastics in the environment.
Dr Mary Thornton is the Programme Chair for the Bournemouth Natural Science Society (BNSS) , formed in 1903 with the aim of promoting the study of all branches of Science and Natural History, details at http://bnss.org.uk/.
